Description
The churchyard walls and gateway to the Church of St Oswald date from various periods and are constructed of coursed sandstone with stone copings that are chamfered, convex, or feature roll moulding. The south wall includes a flight of five sandstone steps leading from the lane, accompanied by a stone rail and a partially rebuilt brick wall, as well as a timber lychgate from 1898 set on a stone base. The west wall has an inscribed stone indicating that the western and southern sides were restored in 1789. The north wall features a gateway from 1774, which has been repaired at the rear. Sandstone piers with recessed rectangular panels support moulded cornices and a semi-circular gate head adorned with roll mouldings and scroll returns. Each voussoir is decorated with a shield, most of which are worn, and the central voussoir is dated 1774. A flat stone coping rises from the wall over the gateway.
