Description
The lodge to Backford Hall was built in 1863, likely by John Cunningham. It is constructed of red brick featuring decorative diaper work, with a stone plinth and stone dressings, and has a slate roof. The building has a 1½ storey L-shaped plan, with each arm ending in a shaped gable. The ground floor includes sash windows, some of which have a central mullion. The first floor features a mix of round and square windows. In the southwest corner, there is a gabled porch with a moulded stone parapet that displays the date 1863 and an EHG monogram. The stone doorway has a cambered arch and a flat panel, while the door itself has four key-shaped panels, with the upper two being glazed. The structure also includes stone kneelers and quoins.
