Description

The College Flat, located south of The College, is a flat above storerooms that was formerly part of the College of Vicars. It dates from the early 16th century and has undergone alterations in 1699 and the mid-19th century. The building features random red sandstone rubble walls and a graduated green slate roof, topped with tall 19th-century ashlar candlestick chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and has five bays.

On the ground floor, there are 19th-century two-pane double sash windows along with two smaller 20th-century windows. Access to the upper floor is provided by 19th-century external stone steps leading to a 20th-century door set in a chamfered surround. The upper floor has two single-light windows with chamfered surrounds, as well as a former two-light mullioned window from which the mullion has been removed; the window to the right has been enlarged in the 20th century.

The rear wall features cross mullioned windows from 1699, which have been altered to match the facade of The College from 1696. The left side wall, closest to The College, includes a Tudor-style entrance with a hood mould and the initials T.F. (Timothy Fetherstonhaugh), which correspond with a doorway beside the house dated 1839. The building is listed partly for its group value with The College.
