Description
Eden Bridge is a road bridge dated 1762, as indicated on the central parapet stone, with 19th and 20th-century repairs. It is constructed of dressed red sandstone, featuring calciferous sandstone quoins at the parapet projections. The bridge has four round arches, each with two arch rings of voussoirs, and a larger main arch supported by three splayed piers. These piers extend upwards to create rectangular pedestrian passing places within a closed parapet. On the Kirkoswald side, there are two smaller dry arches on a curving approach. A benchmark is located on the central north parapet. The builders' maintenance bond from 1762 is held in the Carlisle Record Office. The bridge is situated partly in Lazonby civil parish.
