Description
Bredwardine Bridge is a bridge built between 1762 and 1764, with restoration work completed in 1921. It is constructed of brick with some sandstone dressings. The bridge features six semi-circular headed arches, with the outer pair being lower and the two end arches resting on dry ground. Each arch has segmental brick construction, adorned with labels and projecting sandstone keystones, all beneath a dentilled cornice. The parapet has flat sandstone coping and a three-course projecting brick string underneath. The parapet slopes upwards from the west end and then levels out over the second arch. Triangular cutwaters on either side of the two central arches extend up to the parapet, creating pedestrian refuges. The upstream side is stone dressed at the base and transitions to brick broaches at the springing level of the arches. The road surface is tarmac, featuring brick drainage channels.
