Description

Old Court is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the late 18th century to early 19th century, with earlier elements from the 17th century and later alterations. The structure is timber-framed but largely rebuilt in brick, with some sandstone rubble. It features Welsh and sandstone slate roofs and brick stacks. The building is L-shaped, consisting of a four-bay house aligned north to south, with a seven-bay granary extending west from the north end. It has a cellar, two storeys, and an attic.

The west elevation displays three windows: a 3-light, a 2-light, and another 3-light late 20th-century casement, all with cambered heads. There is a dentilled brick eaves cornice and two late 20th-century skylights. The granary, which projects forward from the left side, has a six-panelled door that may date from the 18th century, located on the right-hand return. The east elevation features a large brick side stack. The north elevation of the granary has three rows of square timber-framed panels on the first floor above a sandstone rubble ground floor.

Inside, the building has deeply chamfered ceiling beams, likely from the 17th century, which create panels at the junction of the house and granary range. The kitchen and the principal ground floor room have segmental 18th-century brick arches over stone jambs of the fireplaces. The kitchen also features 17th-century lamb's tongue chamfer stops on the ceiling beams and oak floorboards. Some trusses in the house have raking struts, while others have pegged king-posts over ties supported on curved principals. The granary includes king-post trusses with two pairs of raking struts.
