Description
The Red Lion Hotel, originally known as the Lion Inn, is a former inn that has been converted into a hotel. It dates back to the early 18th century and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick on a rubble plinth and features a hipped stone slate roof.
The layout consists of three rooms wide and two rooms deep, with the entrance located off-centre to the left. There is a stack on the right gable and another in the ridge at the junction of the four rooms to the left. A mid-18th century extension is present on the left side, along with 20th-century extensions at the rear.
The facade is asymmetrical but balanced by slightly irregular window placements. The building stands two storeys tall, with a decorative band over each floor and a dentilled cornice. The attic is illuminated by a semi-circular headed window set in a central pediment, flanked by two hipped dormers. The ground floor features a variety of windows, including a 2-light casement, a 3-light casement, a door with a flat canopy supported by scrolled brackets, and two 12-pane sash windows.
