Description
Oldhouse is a former farmhouse located on Pentre Lane in Bredwardine, dating from the late 16th century with later alterations. The building is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and features a two-room plan, with a stack at the north end and a spiral staircase to the west. The entrance is located to the north, and there is a late 20th-century extension at a right angle to the southwest corner.
The east front of the house has two storeys and a gable-lit attic, with irregular fenestration that includes two windows on each floor. The ground floor windows have square labels and are mainly 19th-century two-light casements. The south gable features a stack that serves a first-floor fireplace, which is corbelled out from the wall.
Inside, the rooms on the ground floor are divided by a stud and plank partition, with two doorways, one of which is original. There is a fireplace with a large timber lintel and stone spiral staircases. The roof consists of two and a half bays, with the main chimney located in the half bay. The original doors have triangular heads, including those leading to the staircase.
