Description

The building is the chancel of a former parish church, now a house, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries with alterations in the 17th and later centuries. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings and has a stone slate roof. The west elevation features a restored lancet window placed high in the gable, believed to be from the late 13th or early 14th century. A later 19th-century gabled bellcot sits above the verge, featuring a cusped opening and gable cross. A late 20th-century weatherboarded porch conceals a 19th-century two-centred doorway with a two-leaved ledged oak door. The north elevation has a single lancet window and a weathered buttress. A small 19th-century sandstone stack is located to the left of the verge. The east elevation showcases a pair of tall restored lancet windows. The south elevation contains a 2-light window with trefoil-headed lights and a lozenge-shaped tracery above. To the left is a chamfered lancet, and to the right, a projecting area of weathered walling indicates a former tomb recess. A buttress appears in the left-hand corner. Inside, a piscina with a quatrefoil drain and waterspout is present. A tomb recess, likely from the 14th century with a two-centred arch decorated with fleurons, is found in the south wall. Two zones of stained glass, possibly from the 17th century, are within the south-east window; one depicts three sheaves against a blue ground. The interior also has three triple angle strut trusses with cambered ties, likely from the 17th century, along with some late 17th-century panelling with fluted margins. The nave of the original church was demolished, and the current west wall was constructed in 1873.
