Description
This milestone, located approximately 50 meters north of the Seven Mile Bridge over the Kendal/Lancaster Canal, dates back to 1826. It is made of cast iron and has a half-hexagonal shape with fluted faces and a domed top. The milestone is painted black and white and features the inscriptions "BURTON" on the north side and "KENDAL" on the south side, along with the distance of "4 7 MILES." It is part of a series of similar milestones and boundary stones along the Heronsyke Turnpike, which were supervised by John McAdam.
