Description

This milestone, located 100 yards south of South Lodge, dates from 1826 and is made of cast iron. It has a half hexagonal shape with a fluted face and a domed top, and it is painted black and white. The north side is marked "BURTON KENDAL 5" and the south side is marked "6 MILES." This milestone is part of a series of similar milestones and boundary stones along the old Turnpike road.
