Description
Old Hall Bridge is a canal bridge built around 1818 by engineer John Fletcher, based on the original designs of John Rennie, whose route for the Kendal/Lancaster Canal was authorized in 1792. The bridge is constructed from squared coursed limestone and features a limestone string course, copings, and a rounded fender course. It has a single elliptical arch with rusticated voussoirs and a keystone. The shallow arched parapets have pilasters at each end, and the bridge is approximately 10 feet wide between the parapets. There is a flight of steps leading up to the level of the track on the southwest side, and an iron rope guard is located at the southwest corner of the arch.
