Description

Milton Mill House and the attached mill are located in Preston Richard and date back to the early 18th century, with later alterations and an extension added in 1863 for Jacob Wakefield, as indicated by the initials and date on the gable. The building features roughcast render over rubble, with visible through stones in the gable and quoins on the extension. It has two string courses and a graduated greenslate roof with two end chimneys, one of which has a protruding stack. The structure is three storeys high with three irregularly placed windows. The ground floor has late 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars, the first floor has 20th-century casements, and the second floor features two 20th-century top-hung windows and one 19th-century sash window on the left. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door set in a segmental opening, topped by a 19th-century gabled porch supported by trellis and decorated with barge-boards. The mill retains a complete working mill wheel and machinery.
