Description
Durley Mill and Mill House is a former mill and house that has been converted into a single residence. It dates from the late 18th century and the early to mid-19th century, with restoration work completed in 1969. The building features walls made of painted brickwork in English bond, with cambered openings on the ground floor. The roof is tiled, with flat-roofed dormers and some hipped roofing at the rear.
The structure consists of one block with lower extensions at the back, presenting a wide front to the west. The house is located on the north side and has two storeys plus an attic, with four windows. The early 19th-century cast-iron casements are found on the north side, where there is also a triple sash window above a coupled sash window. The central part of the house has a solid porch, while the mill section features a tall gabled hoist with tiled sides and a boarded front, which now includes windows above wide doorways on both the first and ground floors.
There are irregular rear extensions made of similar materials, including a granary located south of the central waterway. To the north, the house extension has a two-storey wing. Inside, the original mill wheel from 1875 remains in place, along with other machinery items.
