Description
The Seven Milestone Bridge over the Kendal/Lancaster Canal is a canal bridge built around 1816. It was likely designed by engineer John Fletcher, based on original plans by John Rennie, whose canal route was approved in 1792. The bridge is constructed from squared, coursed limestone and features a limestone string course and copings, along with a rounded fender course. It has an elliptical arch made of rusticated voussoirs and a keystone. The shallow arched parapets are slightly curved in plan and have pilasters at each end. There are steps leading up to the roadway and a metal rope guard on the northwest side. The distance between the parapets is approximately 6 meters.
