Description

Moss End Farmhouse is a house that was probably remodeled and extended in the early 18th century and again at the rear in the early 19th century. It features a roughcast render with sandstone dressings and a graduated greenslate roof with stone ridge and copings. The building has two storeys plus attics and includes five sash windows with glazing bars and stone lintels. A later central gabled porch, which is slated, has a 19th-century six-panelled door with glazed upper panels that partly obscures the original moulded lintel of the inner door, which has embattled sinkings.

Inside, there is an oak staircase with a closed string and a moulded handrail leading to the attics. The interior also includes early 19th-century panelled doors, 18th-century panelling on the stairs, and a spice cupboard with initials and the date P 1711. The fireplace in the front room features an A A eared surround with egg-and-dart moulding and a corniced overmantel supported on consoles with an enriched frieze.
