Description
Burton Hall is a house dating back to the 17th century, significantly remodelled and extended in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble, with a graduated greenslate roof and a stone ridge. The property has two storeys and originally featured three windows. These are 19th-century, two-light casements with small panes and pointed-arched heads to the lights, set within stone surrounds. A central, two-storey gabled porch provides access, featuring a top-glazed, vertically-split door with a pointed-arched head and an inner, heavily-studded door with decorative lattice glazing. Small, blocked windows are visible on each floor to the far left. A small, flat-roofed, single-storey extension from the 19th century sits to the right of the porch. Further details include a plinth, stone copings, decorative brackets to the kneelers, a finial to the apex, and a finial to the right-hand kneeler. The original rear elevation retains a two-light mullioned window with cavetto mouldings on each floor on the west side. A single-storey gabled stone porch with a ball finial is also present on the east side. Inside, the house contains chamfered beams and an oak staircase with turned balusters and an earlier, enriched newel, lit from a ceiling dome. Fireplaces with stone lintels are in the kitchen and living room; a "coachman's" seat is found in the kitchen, and original floorboards are present throughout.
