Description

The Royal Hotel is a hotel built in the late 18th century, with part of the left side appearing to be a remodelling of an earlier building. It features rubble walls with stone dressings and a partly hipped roof made of graduated greenslate, topped with a blue glazed ridge. The building has two storeys and nine windows, which are sashes with vertical glazing bars and stone lintels. There is a small blocked window with a stone surround located between the third and fourth windows.

The left part of the hotel has a four-panelled door with a sash window to the left and a small-paned shop window with pilasters and a cornice to the right. The main section has a vertically-split four-panelled door in a moulded architrave with a bracketed pediment, flanked by two sash windows on either side, along with a six-panelled door in a moulded architrave with a window to its right. The building has three chimneys, with the one on the left set diagonally.

On the south return elevation facing The Square, there are three windows in a Venetian style, with a central four-panelled vertically-split door beneath a decorative fanlight, all in a plain surround with a bracketed cornice. There is also a small inserted 20th-century window at the far right.
