Description
Challon Hall is a house dating from 1760, as indicated by the initials and date "RD" on a plaque with a scrolled pediment and egg-and-dart moulding on the right-hand gable. The building features roughcast render with stone dressings and a graduated greenslate roof with a stone ridge. It has two storeys and five windows, all of which are 20th-century replacements set in stone surrounds with a continuous stone band at the heads. The central entrance has a top-glazed door in a decoratively-moulded stone surround, which includes an ogee pattern and rosettes on the lintel.
Inside, the hall boasts chamfered beams and an 18th-century oak cupboard in the living room. There is also an 18th-century oak staircase with turned balusters, a closed string, a ramped and moulded handrail, and a segmental bottom step. The interior features a court cupboard with an enriched fascia and turned balusters at each end, along with initials and the date "W 1616." Additionally, there is oak panelling in the rooms with an enriched frieze displaying the initials and date "W 1611," and decorative plasterwork in the landing ceiling.
