Description

Field End Bridge is a canal bridge built around 1818 by engineer John Fletcher, based on the original design by John Rennie, whose plan for the canal was approved in 1792. The bridge is constructed from squared, coursed limestone and features limestone string copings and a rounded fender course. It has a single elliptical arch with rusticated voussoirs and a keystone. The shallow arched parapets curve in plan and are complemented by pilasters at each end. The bridge is approximately 12 feet wide between the parapets and carries Commonmire Lane over the canal.
