Description
Stainton Crossing Bridge is a canal bridge built around 1818 by engineer John Fletcher, based on the original designs of John Rennie, whose plan for the canal was approved in 1792. The bridge is constructed from squared, coursed limestone and features a limestone string and coping. It has a single elliptical arch made of rusticated voussoirs and a keystone. The shallow arched parapets are slightly curved in plan and include pilasters at each end, with steps leading up to the roadway at the southeast corner. The bridge is approximately 15 feet wide between the parapets and is built into an embankment at both ends.
