Description

The East Portal to Hincaster Tunnel and Accommodation Bridge over a sunken horse path is a Grade II listed structure completed on Christmas Day in 1817. Designed by engineer Thomas Fletcher, it features tooled, dressed limestone with a limestone string course, coping, and a rounded fender course. The opening to the canal tunnel has a horseshoe arch made of rusticated voussoirs and a keystone, flanked by tapering pilasters. There is a blank panel above the arch that was likely intended for an inscription. The accommodation bridge also has a horseshoe opening with rusticated voussoirs and a keystone. The canal is now dry.
