Description

The barn, shippons, and hayloft stand to the south west of Sellet Hall. The central portion of the barn features initials and a date, “M” and a date – likely from the 18th century – with later additions dated 1746, marked "I M 1746," to the north and south. It is constructed of stone rubble walls with projecting through stones and has a graduated greenslate roof, a stone ridge, and stone coping on the west gable. The barn follows a T-shaped plan. The east elevation has eight windows on the ground floor, likely dating from the 19th or early 20th century, with glazing bars, along with two boarded doors and two similar loft doors above. There are also small square ventilation holes. The rear of the barn includes cart entrances on each side, slit openings, and a small, unglazed window with stone mullions. The barn is included on the list partly for its contribution to the group value of Sellet Hall, which is listed separately under Stainton Parish.
