Description

Netherfield is a house dating to circa 1766. It is constructed primarily of red brick with a stone string course, featuring a wooden cornice below a ramped parapet and a hipped slate roof. Brick stacks are located at the rear. The building is two and a half storeys high and has three bays. The upper floor has a central flat-headed dormer casement, and 16-pane sash windows in the outer bays. The centre has a round-headed window with glazing bars, while the ground floor features Venetian sash windows with glazing bars framing the central doorway. All windows have painted keystones. A pilaster doorcase with a moulded head and keystone, panelled reveals, a tracery fanlight, and a six-panel door are accessed by a flight of eight steps with a wrought iron railing. The left return elevation includes a mid-19th century canted bay window. The interior contains a late 18th- to early 19th-century dogleg staircase, plaster paterae on the hall ceiling, a marbleized Victorian fireplace in the right-hand front room, and an early 18th-century bolection moulded fireplace in the left-hand front room. The back parlour features an early 19th-century fireplace imported from Bindon House.
