Description
This milestone, located approximately 250 yards north of the Punch Bowl Public House, dates from 1826 and is made of cast iron. It has a half-hexagonal shape with a fluted face and a domed top, and it is painted black and white. The north side is marked with "BURTON 8 MILES," while the south side reads "KENDAL 3 MILES." This milestone is part of a series of similar milestones and boundary stones that can be found along the old Turnpike Road.
