Description
This milestone, located approximately 75 meters north of Summerdale House, dates from the early 19th century. It is made of limestone and features an upright post with a flat top and deep chamfers on the front corners. The milestone is painted black and white, displaying deeply-incised sans-serif lettering and numbers within sunken oval panels. The inscriptions indicate directions to Kirkby Kendal and Lonsdale to the west and Milnthorpe, with the distance of 4 miles to the east.
