Description

This milestone, located approximately 400 yards north of Mattinson's Bridge on the Kendal/Lancaster Canal, dates from around 1818. It is made of limestone and features an upright post with a round head. The upper part of the milestone is dressed, while the base is roughly cut. There are dressed oval panels on either side, with the number 20 inscribed on the south side, indicating the distance in miles from Lancaster, and the number 7 on the north side, indicating the distance from Kendal.
