Description

This milestone, likely dating from the early 18th century, is made of dressed stone and has a square shape set diagonally to the road. Each face features a slightly rounded head. The north side is inscribed with "KIRKBY/LONSDALE/4," while the south side has the inscription "KENDAL/8," which is probably a more recent addition. The numbers are presented in sunk ovals. The base of the milestone is not visible, and there is a benchmark at the top. It is located on the turnpike road from Kendal to Kirkby Lonsdale, established in 1753.
