Description

Rigmaden School and School House is a former school and residence built in 1839, as indicated by the lintel that reads "1839/LAUS DEO". The building is constructed of stone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. It has a T-plan layout and is a single storey, with the house having an attic in the north wing. The exterior includes rusticated quoins and decorative bargeboards.

The south wing consists of three bays and has a gabled porch on the south return. The windows, framed in ashlar surrounds, are fitted with casements. The entrance features a decorated lintel with the date beneath a label mould, along with a panelled door. A panel reading "RIGMADEN SCHOOL" is located between the second and third bays, topped with a crest.

The building has a cross-axial stack with diagonal shafts. The west wing includes a casement window and a gabled dormer on the south side, as well as a window with small-paned fixed glazing beneath a dripstone on the west side. There is also an entrance with a plank door on the north side. The north wing contains a sashed window, a gabled dormer, and a small triangular-headed light. The gabled porch features a finial and a label mould over the entrance, which has a 9-panel door, three of which are glazed.

The gable-end stack is present, and the east elevation has an attached outbuilding with an entrance under a canopy at the south end and a dormer window at the north end. The area to the south-west is enclosed by plain iron railings on a stone base, with a squeeze stile.
