Description
Summerdale House is a former vicarage, now a house, with a doorstep inscribed and dated 1734. The building was remodelled and extended to the right in the late 19th century and extended to the left in the 20th century. It features rubble walls that are partly rendered, with roughly-dressed limestone quoins and a graduated greenslate roof with a stone ridge. The house is two storeys high and has three windows, which are sashes with glazing bars.
The central entrance has a 20th-century glazed door with a decorative overlight, set within a 19th-century dressed limestone doorcase that includes pilasters and an entablature. All windows have stone lintels, and there is a cill band at the first floor. A moulded cornice with a cast-iron ogee gutter runs along the top, and there are two corniced chimneys at the ends. The right extension has two small casement windows and a single chimney.
The inscription on the doorstep features a compass with the words "EAST WEST NORTH'S BEST" surrounding it, and below that, "FOR QUIET ENJOYMENT MDCCXXXIV." Inside, there is late 19th-century woodwork and a staircase, while the 20th-century extension to the left is not of interest.
