Description

The Cottage is a mid-18th century house located on the north side of Front Street, Alston. It is constructed of coursed, squared rubble and has a 20th-century artificial slate roof, retaining original kneelers at the west end, with stone end chimneys. The front elevation is symmetrical, with two storeys and three bays. Steps lead up to a central part-glazed door flanked by single sash windows on the ground floor, and two sash windows above, all with glazing bars. A small plank door is located on the ground floor to the right, likely leading to a coal shute. The rear of the house features 20th-century casement windows. The building is listed for its group value.
