Description

The Willows is a mid-18th century house situated on Church Lane, Charlbury. It is built of coursed squared rubble with a stone slate roof. The house is two storeys and an attic, with a symmetrical three-window facade facing the street at a right angle. A 19th-century panelled door with a plain overlight provides access. Sash windows with glazing bars and horns are set beneath flat stone lintels incorporating keyblocks. A hipped dormer window has casements. The gables feature kneelers and stone coping; the coping on the right-hand gable was replaced in the 20th century. There are two 19th-century gable-end chimneys, and 19th-century lean-to extensions to the rear. Inside, the house retains mid-18th century panelling, two reset 18th-century fireplaces on the ground floor, one original fireplace on the first floor, a remodelled staircase, and a purlin roof.
