Description

This property, occupied by the Sunderland Building Society, is a shop built on a sloping site in the mid-18th century, with later alterations. It features coursed rubble that has been lime-washed and a graduated stone-flagged roof with a brick chimney at the north end. The building is three stories high with a three-bay front. There is a wagon opening on the left side that leads into a yard at the rear, which has a 20th-century lintel. On the right side, there is a projecting 19th-century shop front that includes a glazed door set back between multi-light windows in moulded frames, along with dado panelling and a cornice around the window. The first floor on the left has a paired sash window with glazing bars, while the right side features a fixed window with decorative glass displaying a pestle and mortar, initials, and the date J.R. AD 1900. The second floor has two sash windows that are not aligned with the first-floor windows.
