Description

65 High Street is a shop with a dwelling above, currently serving as a Building Society shop and offices. It was built in the early 19th century and features brown brick with red brick dressings and a slate roof. The building has two facades: the northern side faces Tuesday Market Place, while the eastern side faces High Street.

The north front is four storeys high and divided into three bays. It has a fascia made up of two plate-glass windows separated by a central doorway, all framed by plain pilasters that are doubled at the ends of the elevation. Each pilaster has an acanthus capital motif. Above and below the pilasters is a dentil fascia cornice with egg-and-dart decoration. The first and second floors are lit by sash windows with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. The first-floor windows on the left and right are tripartite, while the second-floor sashes are horned and have a single glazing bar each. The roof is gabled and hipped to the east.

The High Street facade consists of four bays and features a similar shopfront with a doorway leading to chambers above, positioned to the left. The first floor is designed to appear as five bays, achieved by including two blind windows, one on either side of the central tripartite sash. The sash windows are similar, but the second-floor windows are original and have a full set of glazing bars. The interior was reported to have been refitted in 1990, but it still includes a resited staircase.
