Description

The National Westminster Bank, located at No. 4 Tuesday Market Place in King's Lynn, is a commercial building that also served domestic purposes. It was built in the mid-18th century and had its façade updated in the mid-19th century. The structure is made of brown brick with red-brick dressings and features a slate roof. It stands three stories tall with a dormer attic and is arranged in six bays.

On the ground floor, there is a doorway on the far left and a carriage entrance on the right that leads to a rear passageway. Between these openings, there are seven fluted Doric columns that frame four reused early 19th-century two-light arched windows with roundel vesicas. The entrance to the banking hall, which was also the former shop, is located immediately to the left of the carriage entrance.

The upper floors are adorned with sash windows that have glazing bars and are topped with gauged skewback arches. An ovolo modillion eaves cornice adds detail to the roofline, which is hipped and features three gabled dormers fitted with horned sashes. The rear elevation, made of red brick, also has sash windows, three gabled dormers, and a variety of cut-down stacks.
