Description

Mayden's Heade Hotel is a public house located in King's Lynn. The building features a rear wing from the mid-16th century and a front block dating to the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick, with roughcast on Market Lane, and has a brown brick facade topped with slate roofs. The facade is two storeys high with a dormer attic and consists of six bays. There is a door to the right of the centre set under a round arch, along with a second panelled door to the right with a three-light overlight above. The windows are sash style, with the one situated between the doors featuring horns. All windows include glazing bars and are topped with gauged skewback arches. The upper floor displays two oval advertising panels promoting Bullards brewery products. The roof is gabled and hipped to the south, featuring two sloping dormers with casement windows and a stack on the south slope.

To the east, a two-storey wing extends along Market Lane, with the south face showcasing a partially blocked 11-light ovolo mullioned timber casement that has a central transom. The ovolo-moulded king mullions create a 2-7-2 rhythm across the lights. The elevation includes various later casements and sashes. On the north side, the upper floor has a three-light late 18th-century casement and a six-light ovolo-mullioned casement in a reduced opening to its right. The roof is gabled, and the rear wall of the front elevation was rebuilt in the late 20th century using fletton bricks.

The interior has only been partially inspected. The ground floor has been opened up in a manner typical of brewers' caverns and does not retain any notable features. Some bridging beams on the first floor have mortices for joists.
