Description

This building in Queen Street, King's Lynn, is a house with origins dating back to the 16th century, although it was largely remodelled in the late 18th century and again in the early 1980s. Originally, it consisted of an L-shaped plan, with a hall range to the rear. It is constructed of brick and has pantiled roofs.

The front elevation is three stories high and comprises two or three bays. A door on the right has been blocked and converted into a window, with its original six-vaned fanlight remaining. There are two horned sash windows on the left with glazing bars. Matching sash windows are on the first floor, and a smaller window is on the top floor. All of the windows are late 20th-century replicas, set under gauged skewback arches. The eaves cornice features triple modillion brackets. The roof is gabled, and there is an internal gable-end stack to the south.

The main entrance is at the rear, to the north of a two-story cross wing, designated as 23B. This wing retains four lights of what was originally a six-light cross-casement hall window on the ground floor.

Inside No.23A, an oval staircase features stick balusters and a wreathed handrail. The west side of the roof retains a single clasped purlin, but the rest of the roof structure has been replaced.
