Description

Bridge House is a mid-18th century house located on the north side of the B6254 road, between Old Hutton and Holmscales. The front of the house is slate-hung with an eaves band, and it has a graduated slate roof with a 45-degree pitch. The house is symmetrical in design, with two storeys and five bays. A central panelled door leads to the house via stone steps; it is flanked by two sash windows on the ground floor, and five sash windows are positioned above. A moulded cast iron gutter is supported by dentils, and there is a decorative rainwater head. Stone chimneys are located at each end of the building. A provisional listing from December 1951 described interior features, including an original oak staircase, a semicircular arch with a dentil cornice and pilasters in the entrance hall, and original panelled doors. A sitting room to the left of the entrance hall contains a pair of fitted 18th century panelled cupboards with pilasters and semicircular heads incorporating key blocks, flanking the fireplace. Interior access was not possible during a resurvey in May 1985.
