Description
The gatepiers located to the west of the former school date from the late 18th century or early 19th century and may have been re-used from Raw Head farm, which was the home of the Sleddall family. Each gatepier is made of rusticated stone, featuring a battered plinth and cornice, and is square in plan, standing approximately 9 feet high. Atop each pier is a life-size cast iron running greyhound, which is supported by the letter "S," representing the Sleddall family badge. A low blocking wall has been inserted between the gatepiers. Identical gatepiers are also used for the north entrance of St Stephen's churchyard.
