Description
The gate piers at Scriven Park date from the late 17th century to early 18th century and were built for the Slingsby family of Scriven Hall, which has since been demolished. These gate piers are made of rusticated ashlar. The inner pair stands approximately 4 metres high and features a moulded plinth and deep cornice, topped with four S-scroll supports on balls that carry a swagged orb and either a coronet or a vase. The outer pair of piers is similar but slightly shorter at around 3.5 metres high and has ball finials. The wooden gates, which are from the 20th century, serve as the main entrance to Scriven Park from Knaresborough. The original hall was built in the late 17th century, underwent rebuilding in 1730, and was demolished in 1954, leaving only the stable block, which has been converted into a house.
