Description

This is an early 19th-century post office and three attached houses forming the east side of The Square in Burton. The building is constructed from roughly-coursed stone rubble with stone dressings, and has a slate roof. It is three storeys high and has five windows. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set in plain surrounds. Numbers 1 and 2 have paired six-panelled doors in plain surrounds, each topped with a moulded pediment and flanked by a window on either side. Numbers 3 and 4 also have paired six-panelled doors in plain surrounds, but without the pediment and with a window to each side. The building features a plinth, quoins, a modillioned eaves cornice, and three chimneys.
