Description
Burton House is an early 19th-century house located on Clifton Road in Burton-upon-Ure. The house is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, and has a graduated stone slate roof. It is two stories high with a five-bay facade. The fourth bay features a half-glazed door with a Doric porch, approached by four stone steps, flanked by late 19th-century bay windows with friezes and dentilled cornices. All other windows are 16-pane sashes with stone sills and lintels featuring incised voussoirs. There is stone coping and end stacks, with one stack to the ridge. The left return shows a gable with a pediment-like shape containing a lunette window. The rear elevation has a basket-arched stair window, which is a sash with Gothic glazing bars within a brick arch. The interior contains a plain open-well staircase and moulded architraves with paterae to the doors.
