Description
The Nenthall War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1922. It is made of grey granite and is located at a small junction on the A689, making it prominently visible to passersby. The memorial features a rough-hewn Latin cross adorned with Celtic knot-work carving at the head and on the short shaft. This cross stands on a plinth made from a rough-hewn block, which has a smoothed face that displays an inscription on the right side and a relief-carved sheathed sword surrounded by a wreath on the left side. The memorial rests on a rusticated base. The inscription, which is incised and filled with black lettering, reads:
IN HONOUR / OF THE MEN / OF NENTHALL / WHO FELL IN THE / GREAT WAR / 1914 - 1918 / (Names)
