Description
This milestone, located to the southwest of Skelgillrigg, was likely created in the 19th century for the Alston Turnpike Trust. It is a single stone approximately 2.5 feet high, featuring two angled front faces and an angled top. The stone is painted white with carved sans-serif lettering highlighted in black. The inscriptions read "NENTHEAD 3½" at the top, "ALSTON 1" to the left, and "COPTHILL 8¾" to the right.
