Description
This milestone, dating from the early 19th century, was erected for the Alston Turnpike Trust. It is made from a single stone, approximately 2 feet high and 1.5 feet wide, featuring a semicircular top. The stone is painted white, with carved sans-serif lettering on the front face highlighted in black, indicating the distances to Alston (5 miles) and Middleton (17 miles).
