Description
This is a milestone located to the east of Over Lee House, dating from the early 19th century and associated with the Alston Turnpike Trust. The milestone is made of stone, approximately 2 feet high and 1.5 feet wide, featuring an elliptical top. It is painted white, with carved Roman lettering on the front face that is highlighted in black, indicating distances to Alston (6 miles) and Middleton (16 miles). A benchmark has been added at the bottom.
