Description
This milestone, likely from the 19th century, is located to the northeast of High Annat Walls along the B6277 road in Alston Moor. It stands approximately 2½ feet high and is made from a single stone. The milestone features two angled front faces and an angled top. It is painted white, with carved sans-serif lettering highlighted in black. The inscriptions read: "ASHGILLHEAD 9½" at the top, "ALSTON 1" on the left, and "MIDDLETON 21" on the right.
