Description
This is a milestone located to the north of Whitehouse, dating from the early 19th century and associated with the Alston Turnpike Trust. The milestone is a single stone approximately 2 feet high and 1.5 feet wide, featuring an elliptical top. It is painted white, with carved lettering on the front face highlighted in black. The original inscription at the top is in Roman lettering, stating "ALSTON 2, HAYDON B. 15." Below this, there is a sans-serif addition that reads "HEXHAM 21½."
