Description
The bird-house located to the east of Clarghyll Hall is a Grade II listed structure, possibly built in the mid to late 18th century for Thomas Whitfield, though it may also date from the 19th century when Rev. Octavius James was associated with it. This building is situated on the north side of a large ornamental pond and is constructed from coursed, squared rubble with quoins, topped by a late 20th century hipped Welsh slate roof. The bird-house has three storeys, with an entrance on the east side at the first floor level. On the south side, there is a low arch with a projecting keystone and an elliptical head, designed for waterfowl. Above this arch, there are two narrow hen openings with triangular heads. Additionally, small dove holes can be found below the eaves on the west side.
