Description

This milestone, located to the southwest of Newshield, is likely from the 19th century and was created for the Alston Turnpike Trust. It is a single stone approximately 2.5 feet high, featuring two angled front faces and an angled top. The stone is painted white, with carved sans-serif lettering in black that reads: "HAYDON BRIDGE 16" at the top, "ALSTON 1" on the left, and "HEXHAM 22½" on the right.
